When we really love God we want to please Him. We acknowledge when we do things that are not pleasing to Him, and sometimes we keep reliving the offense. While, God wants our desire to obey Him to be stronger than our flesh, we have to forgive, forget, and let go when we fall short. That does not mean we abuse God’s mercy and continue to sin with no real intent to stop. Rather, we confess our sins to God, ask for the forgiveness of whoever He prompts us to, forgive ourselves, and choose to forget (by faith) the situation. Then, we move forward.
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
