John 16: 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
Conviction of sin is for the world (v.9); conviction of righteousness is for believers (v.10). We are designed like our Father. We are created to be in His righteous image (Genesis 1:27; John 4:24).
The Spirit convicts us of righteousness when we fall short so that we can renew our minds (soul) and be more Christ-like. While our spirits have already been made righteous (Romans 5:19), through the continuous renewing of our minds and the supernatural strength of Christ (Philippians 4:13), we can tame our flesh.
