James 1:25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
In addition to understanding that the perfect law involves being Spirit-led and new commandment led (John 13:34), we have another step before we receive the ‘bless you for doing it.’ ‘Do what it says’ seems simple, by why would ‘don’t forget what you heard’ come after it rather than before it?
‘Don’t forget what you heard’ involves active listening and discerning the voice of God. You can hear a sound and think nothing of it or you can hear words, internalize them, and repeatedly act on them. As Romans 10:17 says, faith comes by hearing, it is implied that hearing is an ongoing action. We continuously hear God’s Word, and we actively listen to His voice. So, it is time to make time to be still and listen to God.
Then, God will bless you for doing it.
