Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
When people read this verse, they mainly think about working hard enough to please God. However, there is another interpretation to this scripture that some of us may not have seen. This scripture can also be interpreted to only please God in our work performance, not man.
Let me explain.
Some people have this mentality where they feel obligated to work extra hard and additional hours to please or be recognized by men. The only One we are to please in our work performance is God. If man makes it seem like we have to work 12 hours on an 8 hour day but, God says quit after 10 hours; obey God because He is pleased. Just because everyone else is working that long doesn’t mean that’s what God wants us to do. Our work should not be a detriment to our spiritual growth, our health, or our families.
Once again, we are not obligated to please anyone but, God. Work hard, but only to please God.
