Matthew 6:19-21 ESV “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Regarding our finances, we need to prioritize our spending because where our treasure is, that’s where our heart is (Matt 6:21). If we create a budget and look at our spending, we can actually see where the majority of our money is headed. Some of us spend our money on clothes, cuisine, or partying. All of these things are temporal and are not an investment for our future. The first place our money should go is to the Kingdom of God (no exceptions). When we give to the Kingdom of God, there is a guaranteed promise that our money will be returned in abundance. The rest of our money should be spent as the Spirit of God leads us to spend it.
As with everything else, we should allow the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us in our finances.
