Joshua 6:3 You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. 4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”
When God told the Israelites to walk around the walls of Jericho for seven days then shout on the seventh, those were specific instructions for them in that situation. It may not have seemed wise or logical but, that’s what God told them to do. They received and applied His instructions and benefited from their obedience.
That’s why it’s so important to hear from God for yourself. What instructions has He given you? Whatever He’s instructed us to do, we have to receive and apply those instructions in our lives. Just because God told the Israelites to walk around the walls of Jericho and shout, doesn’t mean He’s telling us to walk around our problem or situation and shout. And just because we saw someone else receive their desires after doing a certain act doesn’t mean we should do the same thing. It’s a waste of time and faith doing something God hasn’t instructed us to do.
Hear from God for yourself, follow His instructions specifically designed for you, and have faith that His instructions are beneficial.
