John 6:5-7 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.”
Jesus tested Phillip to see what he would do. What was the test? Jesus wanted to see if Philip would totally rely on Him or self-effort.
Unfortunately, Phillip failed the test by relying on self-effort by trying to gather enough money to feed the people. Fortunately for us, Philip’s failure taught us a lesson. When we attempt to do anything out of self-effort, we will always come up short. Our responsibility is to believe in the finished works of Jesus. Jesus didn’t leave anything undone and He doesn’t need our help. Through Jesus, God has made provision for our needs and desires. All we need to do is believe.
Remove self-effort from your life and only believe in the finished works of Jesus Christ.
