1 Thessalonians 4:4 that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
We are spirit beings, who possess a soul, and we live in a body (1 Thess 5:23). We are not our bodies. Our bodies are a temporary house for our spirit.
As believers and people of faith, we have control over everything that goes on in our bodies. However, if we’re not exercising our faith over the negative things that attempt to control our bodies, our bodies will be slaves to those negative things.
For instance, if our bodies experience a sickness or disease, we can go through the motions of taking time off of work and getting medicine until the sickness passes. Or, we can exercise our faith, declare the sickness to leave our bodies, and thank God we are healed. If we have a tendency to overeat, we can go through the motions of trying diet pills and weight watcher programs or, we can use our faith, take control over our bodies, and stop destroying the temple of God. If we have lustful desires to sleep with numerous men/women, we can try to stop by using will power, or we can use our faith and stop with God’s power.
Once again, we are spirits made in the image of God and our spirits should be controlling our bodies. Our bodies should not be controlling us.
