There are three ways a person can be led. A person can be led by their emotions, logic, or the Spirit of God.
People led by their emotions are always attempting to feel something. They make major and minor decisions based on how they feel. The problem with being led by our emotions is our emotions are always changing. One day we may feel one way about something but, 10 years from now, we may feel another way however; the decision we initially made has already affected our life.
On the surface, being led logically makes the most sense. Logic provides the fastest, most cost-effective, and the most proficient way of doing something. The problem with logic is it excludes God from all of our decisions. Logic causes us to disobey Proverbs 3:6 which says, acknowledge God in all our ways. Essentially, when we make decisions logically, we’re making our intellect, our reasoning, and our knowledge our god.
As believers, we are to be led by the Spirit of God. One reason to be led by the Spirit is, the Spirit helps in our weaknesses (Rom 8:26). When we’re emotionally weak and we have to make a decision, the Spirit will guide us in the right direction. Secondly, the Spirit searches the deep things of God (1 Cor 2:9-11). Let’s face it, God is more intelligent than us. Through the Spirit, we receive His wisdom that supersedes our logic. Finally, being led His Spirit, will cause all things to work together for our good (Rom 8:28). Even if it doesn’t feel right or logically make sense, we have an assurance that the Spirit’s decision will work for our good.
What’s leading you? Emotions and logic are tools God gave us, not intended to rule us. I encourage you to be led by the Spirit of God.
Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
