John 16:1“All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.
Hitler, the Ku Klux Klan, and witch burners were just a few individuals and organizations who shed innocent blood thinking they were doing a service to God.
Jesus warned us about the deceived minds of these individuals. Jesus warned us about this so we won’t fall away or fall into doubt thinking that God doesn’t love us, or that He doesn’t care, or that He can’t protect us when we experience things that are unjust.
Although there still may be some unjust things occurring in the world today, Jesus finishes John 16 with the following verse: John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
It’s comforting to know we have a Savior who has overcome every situation we’ll ever face. Even if we can’t see a way out, Jesus has handled the situation. By knowing that Jesus has handled everything we’ll face, we can have peace. So instead of worrying about the unjust things happening in society, choose peace because Jesus has overcome the world.
