Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
Marriages have ended, relationships have failed, and individuals have been terminated from their employment because of pride. Some of us act like we don’t care, but a lot of destruction could have been avoided if pride was out of the picture.
What are we holding on to? What benefit do we obtain by not giving in? There is none. In fact, we’ve been deceived into thinking there is some gain by feeding our pride (Obadiah 1:3). The father of deception is Satan (Revelation 12:9). By displaying and holding onto pride, in a sense, we glorify the father of deception.
The opposite of pride is humility. If pride brings destruction, humility should bring construction. A promise of humility is exaltation (Luke 14:11). If we could humble ourselves, apologize to those we’ve offended or even think we’ve offended, and accept constructive criticism, the literal and our personal world would be a better place.
Let go of pride and experience exaltation in every area of life.
Obadiah 1:3 The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?
