Has God ever told you to do something and you didn’t see the point? For instance, He may have told you to wear a red shirt. Out of obedience, you wore it, but nothing really happened. No one complimented you in it. There wasn’t anyone you could share the gospel with because they commented on it, and you didn’t see anyone you could give it to. When you get home, in your head, you’re saying, what’s the point?

This is obedience practice. In obedience practice, God teaches us a few things.

1. We practice sensitizing our spiritual ears to know God’s voice. John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

2. We practice denying our flesh. You may have wanted to wear the blue shirt that day, or the white shirt would be more logical based on how hot it is, but you denied the flesh and submitted to God’s will.

3. When we obey, we practice being in expectation to receive good from God. Isaiah 1:19 says, “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” God promises good will happen when we obey so, even if nothing immediately happens because we wore a red shirt, we can expect something good from God.

Ultimately, we’ll be put in a serious situation where our obedience matters, and we’ll be able to make the right decision. We’ll know His voice, we’ll deny logic and how we feel about the situation, and we’ll expect good results.

Don’t dismiss the seemingly insignificant things God tells you to do. It’s obedience practice, and it will benefit in the long run.

Acts 9:10-11 NLT Now there was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, calling, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord!” he replied. The Lord said, “Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now.
