John 8:31 NLT Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.
As we can see, Jesus is speaking to people who already believe in Him. He tells them they’re truly His disciples if they remain faithful to His teachings. This lets us know there’s a difference between a believer and a disciple.
A believer is someone who believes God sent Jesus as His Son to die for the sins of the world (Rom. 10:9-10). A disciple is a believer who remains faithful or consistently obedient to the word of God.
A believer can still be a believer but satisfy their flesh on nights and weekends. A disciple makes the effort to remain faithful, knowing if they miss the mark, God’s grace is available.
A believer can live a life filled with fears. A disciple doesn’t allow fear to reign. They trust what God says in His word and rely on the Holy Spirit to overcome all fears.
A believer develops their own plan and hopes God blesses it. A disciple submits all their plans to God, and ultimately, they want to fulfill His will in the earth.
It’s great that a lot of us are believers, but let’s graduate to become disciples.
