Psalms 105:43 NLT So He brought His people out of Egypt with joy, His chosen ones with rejoicing.

God brought the Israelites out from under the harsh rule of the Egyptians with joy. When we get born-again, we typically come out of Satan’s grip with joy. There’s joy in heaven when one sinner repents (Luke 15:7).

Somewhere down the line, after we get born-again, some believers lose their joy. Some become mean, judgmental, and overly critical of people. We get extra serious about everything. People remove joyful things that aren’t necessarily wrong from their lives. They feel like the less joy they have, the holier they become.

Nowhere in scripture do we see God taking away our joy. From the beginning, God told mankind to freely eat, which is a form of joy (Gen. 2:16). Jesus died so that we can be full of joy (John 15:11). One of the fruits of the Spirit is joy (Gal. 5:22).

As believers, we need to learn how to properly have fun and enjoy the abundant life we have in Christ. We can smile, laugh, and be entertained by some earthly things like sports, certain television programs, and disciplined shopping. Stop making everything a sin. It’s only a sin if God told us not to do it through His word or specifically to us through His Spirit.

Believers, let’s have and maintain our joy!
