1 John 3: 7Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
Being born again (accepting that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, died for us and rose again so that we can live forever with God), does not eliminate the desire to sin. But, when we are born again, our hearts change and we have a desire to please God. And, Jesus came to destroy sin, giving us the power to overcome sin.
The continuous plight of being Christ-like involves dying to our flesh (sin), and honoring God (Romans 7:14-25). It does not mean that we never fall, but that we are no longer content living in sin. We keep trying to get closer to God, and honor Him by making godly choices. Don’t give up fighting temptation, and don’t allow yourself to be content in sin. As a child of God, choose to honor Him.
