1 Corinthians 9:26Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

We have free will and we are expected to bring our free will into subjection to God. We have a role in displaying the fruit of the Holy Spirit that resides within us (Galatians 5:22).

1. When we become saved we receive the Holy Spirit. (John 14:7)
2. Once we have Him, we ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18, Acts 4:31)
3. We then continuously renew our minds (our soul) to align with God’s Word. (Romans 12:1-2)
4. And, we discipline our bodies and bring them into subjection to our souls, which are submitted to the Spirit.
