1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Suicide is a real problem in our society. People are taking their lives for next to nothing. One main reason people are taking their lives is because of the stresses caused by the trials in life. If people had a different perspective of trials, we can reduce, if not, eliminate suicide altogether. 1 Corinthians 10:13 gives us that different perspective.
1 Corinthians 10:13 Breakdown Part 1: No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. The devil loves to isolate people, making them think they’re the only ones going through trials. If he can isolate people, he’ll deceive them into thinking no one understands or no one can relate to what they’re facing. God’s Word lets us know the problems we face are not uncommon to mankind. The trials of life are simply recycled.
Part 2: And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. This is key. Because God is faithful, He will not allow us to go through anything we can’t handle. The very fact that we’re going through trials is proof we can handle the trials. It doesn’t matter if it’s a divorce, a layoff or, if our actions caused us to be in the trial; we have the God-given ability to handle it.
Part 3: But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. God’s Word says, not only can we handle the trial, but He will provide a way of escape. The stress comes in when WE think WE have to find a solution to the problem. God said He will provide a way out. It’s not up to us, but He will provide a way out for us. We just have to trust Him.
When we have an understanding that whatever problem or difficulty we’re facing, God has given us the ability to endure and overcome it, we’ll never consider suicide again.
