The answer can be found in Colossians 3:10.
Colossians 3:10 NLT Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.
By putting on our new nature, in Christ, and renewing our minds as we learn more about God, we can make the changes we desire to see in ourselves.
How do we learn more about God?
By spending time in His word. Developing a consistent prayer life. Talk to Him throughout the day. And let Him be the decision maker.
All of this can be summed up by consistently building an ever-growing relationship with God. The more we know about Him, the more we’ll learn about ourselves.
Stop using willpower to change. Grow in Him, renew your mind, and change will take place.
