Psalms 81:8 NLT “Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to me!
13 Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths!
Twice in this chapter, God instructs Israel to listen. Although this was in the old covenant, nothing has changed regarding these instructions. God still wants us to listen.
For us now, we can listen to God through His written word. As we read the scriptures, in context, we can get directions on what we need to do in different areas of our lives.
We can listen to God through the Holy Spirit. For every born-again believer, we were gifted with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). The Holy Spirit is willing to teach us all things (John 14:26).
We can listen to God through the gifts Christ gave the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11). As we listen to people who were legitimately called by God, we can get revelation of the scriptures and clarity in our lives.
Once we listen to God and obey what we hear, good things are guaranteed (Isaiah 1:19). Praise God for the good things when we listen and obey.
