Psalms 97:7 NLT Those who worship idols are disgraced— all who brag about their worthless gods— for every god must bow to Him.
Idols are anything we put or magnify over God. We obviously shouldn’t worship statues of various “gods”, but some are unknowingly worshipping mammon (money).
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having money. As believers, we should have lots of money in order to expand the Kingdom of God, be a blessing to others, and enjoy life (Prov 10:22; 2 Cor 8:9).
Money becomes an idol when we’re willing to go outside of God’s will to get it. If we’re willing to lie, cheat, steal, sell our bodies, or destroy the lives of others to have it, that’s when money has us. Money is also an idol if we’re not willing to obey God with it. If God is telling you to give that family $300, but you refuse for whatever reason, that’s when money is placed above God.
God is the one who gives us the ability to get wealth (Deut. 8:18). Don’t magnify that wealth above God. Don’t make money an idol. It’s just a tool that we use to buy and sell.
