Matthew 26:53 NKJV Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

Let’s take a second to reflect on the meekness of Jesus. He was insulted, betrayed, and arrested. He was beaten, whipped, mocked, and insulted. He was spat on and crucified.

As we can see, He could have called over 70,000 angels to stop all the abuse, suffering, and humiliation. Jesus could have shown who He really was and silenced His critics. But His love to fulfill the Father’s will, His love for us, and His self-control empowered Him to suffer in silence. What constraint by the Son to have all that power, but not use it to accomplish a goal for us. That’s amazing.

When we run into situations where we know we’re right about something, we’re insulted, or we’re being mistreated, it’s not always our responsibility to fight that battle or confront that person. There will be times where God instructs us to stand down, say nothing, and let Him handle the situation.

Our flesh will absolutely hate it. Our flesh wants to give them a piece of our mind, tell them about themselves, make them feel real small, and put them in their place where they’ll think twice before they do this again to us or anyone else.

This is where we must put down our pride and ego and trust God to handle the situation. I guarantee He won’t handle the situation the way we expect Him to, but trust that He’ll work it out for our good (Gen. 50:20; Rom. 8:28).

Meanwhile, we can take a note from Jesus and all that He went through, and realize if He can innocently suffer, with all the power He had, we can shut our mouths and let God handle our situation.

Confrontation is necessary in certain circumstances, but even in our confrontation, we must handle things His way. It all goes back to trust. Trust that God’s way is better.

Hebrews 12:2 NKJV looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Proverbs 13:21 NKJV Evil pursues sinners, But to the righteous, good shall be repaid.

Anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is righteous (2 Cor. 5:21). As righteous people, we should be doing good things. We should be helping people financially, emotionally, or physically. We should be beautifying our communities. We should be working with excellence in order for our employer to prosper.

Satan likes to make it seem like the good things we do are for nothing. He wants us to think that no one sees our efforts or everyone is ungrateful. This triggers our flesh to be selfish and entices us not to do good anymore.

In the word of God, we have a promise. Whatever good we do, God’s Word promises that we’ll be repaid. In Ephesians 6:8, God promises that He will repay the good we do.

So, don’t stop doing good things. Don’t stop helping people. Don’t stop being a blessing. If we don’t see immediate responses for the good we do, trust that God sees them and we’ll be repaid.

John 20:30-31 NLT The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you will have life by the power of His name.

Miracles still happen. They have not passed away with the Apostles and they’re not just for the super saints. Miracles happen for anyone who believes.

If we choose to believe for God’s promises to come to pass, they may arrive as a miracle. If we’ve believed God for our needs being met, those needs may be met from an unexpected source. It may be a random stranger or person we haven’t spoken to in a long time. If we’ve believed that the pain is healed by the stripes of Jesus, the manifestation of that healing may come after receiving a hug from a loved one. God’s Word can come to pass in all sorts of ways.

It’s important to note that miracles aren’t always spectacular. Sometimes, miracles seem like coincidences. After standing on God’s word to experience the manifestation of healing, our cousin just so happens to know the top medical professional who specializes in that area. Or, we may have forgotten our wallets before entering a convenience store, so we go back home to get it. Later on, we find out that the convenience store and everyone in it was robbed. If we label these things as coincidences, we may not think twice about them and we’ll move on without thanking God.

Just because we don’t see miracles on a daily basis, doesn’t mean they’re not happening. Miracles are possible for anyone who believes.

There’s a saying that says, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” The idea is that our plans are laughable to God. That’s not necessarily true. God gives us the freedom to make plans.

Psalms 20:4 NLT May He grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.

Proverbs 16:3; 9 (AMPC) Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
9 A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

If we’re in constant fellowship with God on a regular basis, our thoughts will become agreeable to His will. The ideas and plans we have will be God-inspired and they will succeed.

On the other hand, if we’re not seeking God or in constant communication with Him, by the grace of God, some of our plans may be God-inspired, but others may be inspired by our flesh. Those plans usually end up in destruction (Prov. 14:12).

Here’s what we should do. If an idea or plan enters our minds, we need to bring that plan to the Lord. Simply say, “God, is this what you want me to do?” He will say yes or no. If we can’t hear Him clearly, ask again. Let the peace of Christ be the controlling factor in our hearts, deciding and settling questions that arise (Col. 3:15).

Also, if that same idea enters our minds multiple times, don’t assume that it’s God. Satan speaks too. Consult God and let the peace of Christ guide you.

Romans 4:21 NKJV and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Regarding God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah of having a child, Abraham was fully convinced that what God said, will come to pass. He didn’t look at his age, Sarah’s barrenness, the time delay, or anything else. He simply believed God. How did he get this convinced? By faith and confession.

Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing the word of God. So first, God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, which means father of many nations. Next, God changed Sarai’s name to Sarah, which means mother of nations. So, anytime they told someone their names, they were calling themselves the father and mother of nations. And anytime someone called their names, they were hearing they were a father and mother of nations.

Abraham also had the luxury of being taught by the greatest Teacher ever, God Almighty. In God’s sermon, God paralleled the number of stars to Abraham’s descendants (Gen. 15:5). After hearing God’s message, Abraham believed God (v. 6).

If we have doubts about what God said in His Word, we can consistently confess God’s Word until doubt turns to belief. If the devil brings doubt that the pain will go away, we can consistently confess that we’re healed (Isaiah 53:5). This confession will soften our hearts to accept God’s Word.

Next, we need to consistently hear good bible-based teaching on God’s promises in that area. If we need provision, we need to consistently hear how God provides. If we need to overcome emotional pain, we need to hear how God comforts.

The keyword with confession and hearing God’s Word is consistency. We can’t expect to hear a message once and confess once and expect total change. However, consistently hearing and confessing God’s Word will bring us to the point where we’re fully convinced that God’s promise will come to pass.

Haggai 2:8 NKJV ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts.

Every form of currency belongs to God. Everything from the dollar, to diamonds, to gold belong to Him. If any form of finances comes into our possession, it’s His finances. We’re just stewards of it. It doesn’t matter if we worked 80 hours that week to obtain those finances, it was His power we used to get paid (Deut. 8:18).

With the understanding that we are stewards of God’s finances, He has every right to tell us what to do with them. If He tells us to regularly give to our local church, go ahead and give. Giving benefits the recipient, but it benefits us too (Luke 6:38). If He tells us to buy a house for ourselves, don’t be upset with how little money there is left at the end of the month after making a house payment. Just buy and enjoy the house. If He tells us to start a business that we can’t currently afford, start the business with the finances you have. Be in faith for more finances and allow Him to show you how to maintain the business and make it profitable.

The keywords in the examples above is “if He.” The Holy Spirit will instruct us on managing God’s money. If He didn’t tell us to purchase something, He’s not responsible. So, be sure we’re in tune with Him.

Remember, financial currency of any kind may be in our possession, but it all belongs to God. Be a good steward over His possessions.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NKJV “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Looking at these verses, we can see it’s extremely important to God that we teach God’s Word to our children. But if we’re rarely around, how can we share God’s Word with our children?

It’s not only important to teach God’s Word to them, but God’s Word must demonstrated.

Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loves the church and wives are called to respect their husbands (Ephesians 5:25-33). How will our children know what love and respect looks like if we’re not around to show them? How will one spouse experience love or respect if the other spouse is rarely around?

There seems to be a lot of emphasis on getting money and “me time.” If we spend a large portion of our time working and then the rest of our time is “me time” to recover from work, where’s the time we have to spend with our families? It’s great that we want our families to have a comfortable life and the best version of ourselves, but time is something we can’t get back.

Let’s be sure that our work-life, home-life, and me-life are balanced. The Holy Spirit will help, if we let Him. He’ll tell us how much to work, how much time we should have for ourselves, and when we should spend time with our families. If we listen, it will all work out well.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Unfortunately, there is still this belief that God or Jesus is on the other side of our sins. The thought is we have to get our lives together, free from most of our sins, before God or Jesus can fellowship with us. This kind of thinking goes against scripture.

God loves us while we were in our sin. Before we ever get saved, God loves us unconditionally. He loved us (mankind as a whole) so much that He sent His Son Jesus, over 2000 years ago, to die for our sins. While we were in our sins, Christ died for us.

If we make Jesus Christ Lord over our lives, we’re in right standing with God. It doesn’t matter if we’re still dealing with this sin, God’s word tells us we’re saved.

If we get saved, but still have sins in our lives, God doesn’t stay away from us like we have the plague. He never expects us to overcome sin alone. In Philippians 2:13 says, He’ll give us the desire and power to do what pleases Him. Even with sin in our lives, if we’ve made Jesus Christ Lord and Savior, God will still fellowship with us, answer our prayers, and we still have access to the promises of God. Our sin is not greater than God’s grace.

Should we be content with sin in our lives? No. But we shouldn’t think that God has disowned us because of it either. Let’s understand that the penalty of sin has been dealt with and realize God will always want to fellowship with us.

John 8:31 NKJV Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

Part of being a legitimate disciple is abiding, obeying, and remaining faithful to God’s word. Based on scripture, we can’t call ourselves disciples if we pick and choose which words we want to keep. God’s word is not a buffet. In context, and under grace, we must accept it all.

That means we must accept His word where it says we’ll have a prepared mansion in the Father’s house, but also accept that we must love our enemies (John 14:2; Matt. 5:44). We must accept that God’s plan is to prosper us in Jeremiah 29:11, but also accept the responsibility to go and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world in Mark 16:15.

For best results in our lives and for the advancement of God’s Kingdom, we must abide, obey, and remain faithful to all of God’s word.

Exodus 34:7 NKJV keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

Prior to Jesus, we were punished for our sins that weren’t forgiven and for the sins of previous generations.

People read this verse and ran with the term “generational curses.” People thought they were cursed with this issue or that problem based on the sins of their ancestors.

The reason why they accepted these curses was because they didn’t understand the magnitude of what Jesus has done.

Romans 3:24 NLT Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

1 John 4:10 NLT This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Thanks to Jesus, He paid the price and took on the punishment for all sin (past and present). No sin was left out.

So, we don’t have to accept the alcoholism that runs in our family or the sexual sins of former generations. When we accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, we need to accept that He paid for every single sin.

Thank God for Jesus who was the ultimate sacrifice for sin.

God will meet us at the limits of our desires. If we desire to be single, live in an apartment, and work at the same job in the same position for 30 years, God will give us our heart’s desires. If we desire to be married, live in a 3 bedroom house, and work at a job where we have promotion potential, God will honor that. If we desire to be married with children, living in a 4000 square foot house, and owning our own successful business, God will meet us at our desires.

The limits of our desires makes no difference to God, unless our limits are based in fear, doubt, and unbelief.  If we choose to remain single and live in an apartment because we fear marrying the wrong person or we doubt God’s ability to provide a house, that’s a trust issue.

Even with fear and doubt, God won’t shame us, but we’ll get a nudge from the Holy Spirit to trust God for more. We can ignore the Holy Spirit and continue to stay where we are, or we can trust God, take a step of faith, and go to another level. The choice is entirely up to us.

Just know, God isn’t withholding anything from us and He’s not going to force anything on us. Our doubt, fear, and unbelief limits God.

If we choose to remain at one level, don’t be upset or come up with some religious statement about materialism or a lack of contentment because another believer desires for more. We all serve the same God who can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think (Eph. 3:20). They just chose to trust Him for more.

Now, ask yourself, are you limiting God?

Psalms 78:41-42 NKJV Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. They did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy,

Luke 5:16 NKJV So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

If we think we have a busy schedule, Jesus’s schedule was extremely busy. Daily, he traveled, taught, and healed numerous people. With all that He had going, He still recognized the importance of spending quality time with God.

We should never be too busy to spend time with God. We could wake up earlier, go to bed later, or replace our “me time” with prayer.

As we prioritize God and consistently connect with Him, He’ll provide answers to our problems, wisdom for our circumstances, and He’ll prepare us for what’s to come. He’ll remind us of the peace, mental stability, and promises we have through Jesus. Whatever we’re looking for, we can find in our quality time with God.

To our flesh, spending time with God may seem boring and it will seem like a sacrifice, but our spirits love it. It’s like a recharge for our spirit’s battery.

Let’s follow our greatest example in Jesus and take time out of our busy schedule to spend time with the Father.

Psalms 78:18-19 NKJV And they tested God in their heart By asking for the food of their fancy. Yes, they spoke against God: They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

Testing God is putting logic and things we can naturally understand above God’s ability and God’s word.

At some point in our lives, like the children of Israel, we’ve doubted and questioned God’s ability to go beyond our logic and do the impossible.

For instance, some of us have said within ourselves, can God really provide a spouse and children now that I’m 45? Or, can God really provide a house for us with the salary that I’m making?

Some of us don’t even consider the possibility of God doing the miraculous. We just accept what’s in front of us. If it says we have to have a college degree to be promoted, some of us don’t even consider the favor of God working on the hearts of the managers to promote us without a college degree.

We test and doubt God because we don’t want to be disappointed.

If we want to stop testing God and move beyond the fear of being disappointed, we must have faith in God’s miraculous power. Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Rom. 10:17). Not just any word of God, but a word to uproot doubt.

If we doubt God’s word that says we’re healed in Isaiah 53:5 because of the diagnoses we just received from our doctor, hearing about the second coming of Christ is not beneficial. We need to be listening to messages on healing and reading scriptures that confirm that we’re healed (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24; Matthew 15:29-30).

Let’s examine ourselves to see if we’re testing God in any area. If so, let’s do the work to magnify the power in His word above everything else.

Psalms 4:1 NKJV Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

With everything going on today with wars, racism, the economy, and division, there’s a temptation to stress. David discovered an antidote for stress. The antidote is constant communication with God (prayer) and believing what He says (trust).

We must take all of our cares, worries, and things that cause us stress to God. We must be honest with Him and honest with ourselves. Let Him know that this is causing us to worry and that is causing us to lose sleep. We can vent to God.

In return, He’ll give us instructions that will eliminate the stress. He may tell us to meditate on scriptures that reference His protection or provision. He may tell us to turn off the news and listen to His word.

As we put our trust in Him and follow His instructions, we’ll experience peace, wisdom, and joy. The situation may not have changed, but our perspective has. This will cause us to enter a stress-free life.

This stress-free living will help our mental health, our immune system, and our sleep. Regardless of what’s going on, we can be confident in God, and like David, boldly declare, I will lie down in peace and sleep well for God makes we dwell in safety.

Psalms 4:8 NKJV I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

II Corinthians 10:4-5 NKJV For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

If there’s something we don’t want to watch on TV, we’ll usually change the channel to something we like. If we’re not interested in hockey, we’ll change the channel. If we don’t want to watch an awards show, we’ll change the channel.

The same way we can change the channel on TV, is the same way we can change what we’re thinking about in our minds. The concept of “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” is a long way of saying change the channel in our minds to something that aligns with God’s word.

If there are depressing thoughts playing in our minds, we can to turn the channel to thoughts of joy, peace, and happiness. If we have thoughts of worry, we can change the channel to thoughts of God’s word coming to pass.

Don’t believe the lie that says we can’t control our thoughts. We may not control what enters our minds, but we can control what stays in our minds.

Satan will always throw thoughts in our minds that are contrary to God’s word (Ephesians 6:16). It’s up to us to change the channel to a station that agrees with God’s word.
