There’s a saying that says, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” The idea is that our plans are laughable to God. That’s not necessarily true. God gives us the freedom to make plans.

Psalms 20:4 NLT May He grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.

Proverbs 16:3; 9 (AMPC) Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
9 A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

If we’re in constant fellowship with God on a regular basis, our thoughts will become agreeable to His will. The ideas and plans we have will be God-inspired and they will succeed.

On the other hand, if we’re not seeking God or in constant communication with Him, by the grace of God, some of our plans may be God-inspired, but others may be inspired by our flesh. Those plans usually end up in destruction (Prov. 14:12).

Here’s what we should do. If an idea or plan enters our minds, we need to bring that plan to the Lord. Simply say, “God, is this what you want me to do?” He’ll say yes or no. If we can’t hear Him clearly, ask again. Let the peace of Christ be the controlling factor in our hearts, deciding and settling questions that arise (Col. 3:15).

Also, if that same idea enters our minds multiple times, don’t assume that it’s God. Satan speaks too. Consult God and let the peace of Christ guide you.
