Numbers 13:32-33 NKJV And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

Numbers 14:1 So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night.

These are the things that come across our televisions or our social media that can tempt us to worry, panic, or fear. Some of us look at this negative news all day and it’s contaminating our faith and negatively impacting our souls. We’re putting more stock in what we see than in God’s word. It’s time to change the channel.

There’s nothing wrong with being knowledgeable to these facts, but immersing ourselves in this negativity is unwise and unhealthy. How can we give our cares to God if we’re constantly looking at the things that cause us to worry? How can we truly stand in faith of God supplying our needs if we’re constantly looking at what the stock market is doing? If we have faith in God’s word, these things shouldn’t matter.

Before we start our day, we should be studying and hearing God’s word. As we’re getting dressed and driving to work, we should be giving God praise. If we want to see what’s going on in the news, that’s fine, but let’s not consume ourselves with negative reports (Num. 13:32). We can use the facts in the news as an opportunity to pray and use our authority to cause these negative situations to align with God’s word. After about 10 minutes of the news, we need to find something that’s going to build our faith and uplift our souls.

To keep ourselves from being upset, fearful, or worried, we must change the channel from the negative facts in the news to biblical truths in the word of God.
