With the onset of New Year’s Eve, many like to celebrate with alcohol. Most of us know that the Bible says to not get drunk, but we still wonder how much we can drink.
Ephesians 5: 15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Luke 11: 13…how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Ephesians begins by telling us to walk cautiously (not fearfully) as wise people, not fools. Instead of being drunk, we are instructed to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:13 tells us to ask God for the Holy Spirit and we have It.
Have you ever wondered why they refer to alcohol as spirits? Your drinking limit is the point right before you begin to be influenced by the spirits you consume. Please note the term, ‘begin.’ Once the alcohol starts making you feel ‘loose’, the sip before that was your limit.
So, as you prepare to expect God to do great things for you in 2011, remember to make Him part of your celebration by honoring His Word. Also note that to avoid technicalities, you have the option to not consume alcohol at all. Live blessed!!
