Luke 15:22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

The story of the Prodigal Son is a parable of a backslider who repented, returned back to God, and God graciously forgiving and accepting us. There are certain details within the Prodigal Son story that highlight God’s attitude based on our return.

One of those things is God’s excitement towards our return. Although the son spent all he had and sinned against God, the father threw the returning son a party. Notice, the father wasn’t upset, he didn’t bring up his past, and he didn’t give him a lecture. The father loved him, received him, and gave him the best.

There are some who believe that after we repent, there’s a period of time where we have to earn God’s trust and get back into His good graces. God’s not like man. He doesn’t have to see if we’ll behave before He’ll do anything good for us. The fact that we returned to Him is good enough for God.

Don’t allow anyone to discourage you or crush your spirits in your quest of recommitting your life to God. He’s excited for you, He’s forgiven you, and He desires that you receive His love and His best in every area of your life.
