Ephesians 4:20-24 NLT But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from Him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Once we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, there should be changes in our lives. The things we did prior to being born-again, we shouldn’t do anymore.

For instance, if we regularly got drunk on the weekends, we should ease up on the drinking to not get drunk. If we’re used to finding someone to take home for the night, then fornicating, we should control our urges.

We make these changes, not to be accepted by God or to earn His approval. We make these changes to honor God and to thank Him for His sacrifice by sending His Son.

Does that mean we’ll be flawless? Absolutely not. Our spirits got born-again, but our flesh still desires things contrary to the word of God. Our minds still and will always need to be renewed (Rom. 12:2). Does He expect for us to make these changes on our own? Absolutely not. Philippians 2:13 says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

Just call on Him and ask for help when your flesh is talking about doing things contrary to God’s word. He’ll help. And don’t let your flesh do all the talking. If the enemy uses our flesh to throw thoughts, ideas, and suggestions contrary to God’s word in your mind, use your literal voice to and declare you’re going to honor God. You may not know what verse to say, but you can literally say, “No, I honor God!” It may seem strange to talk to someone we can’t see, but we’re positioning ourselves to make these changes that align with God’s word.
