Judges 6:3 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”

The biggest question people have is why. Why did my mom get cancer and die? Why didn’t God save my marriage? Why didn’t I get that job I prayed for?

The question of why can cause people to doubt God’s ability, question God’s existence, and lead them down a path to unbelief altogether.

Why, is a valid question. Answers for why can vary from, disobedience, to unbelief, to basic trials of life. If God can’t answer the question of why, He should cease to be God.

The questions we should ask ourselves is, are we willing to listen to the answer, wait on the answer, or accept the answer that is given to us? Our emotions may be so involved until we’re not willing to calm ourselves and listen to God’s answer. Someone may have prayed for their mother to be healed of cancer, but what they didn’t know is their mother was in so much pain until she would rather be pain-free with the Lord. Our prayers can’t override another person’s desire.

Some answers may not be given for another 5 years. Are we patient enough to wait on the answer?

Finally, are we willing to accept that God may have something better for us if we didn’t get exactly what we prayed for. Psalm 84:11 says, no good thing will he withhold to those who walk uprightly. If He withheld something from us, that wasn’t a good or good enough thing for us.

Trust in God’s answer. Know that whatever we go through, God has our best interest at heart. We can ask why, but don’t let that why turn into unbelief.
