In the first 20 verses of Lamentations 3, the writer mentions how terrible his situation has become. I am the one who has seen the afflictions that come from the rod of the Lord’s anger (Lamentations 3:1). My own people laugh at me. All day long they sing their mocking songs (Lamentations 3:14). The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words (Lamentations 3:19).
Despite all of the affliction, suffering, and mockery he’s facing, he makes a powerful statement in the next 4 verses.
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” -Lamentations 3:21-24 NLT
When all hell seems to be coming against us, that’s when we need to stand flat-footed and trust in the Lord. Giving up ties God’s hands. We may have to trust God with tears in our eyes, but trust Him. We may have to believe in His word with pain in our bodies, but believe Him. We may not know how it’s going to happen, but rely on Him.
Don’t give up! Regardless of what you see and how you feel, place everything you have in God. This is the only time we should place all our eggs in one basket. Trust God!
