Acts 19:30-31 NKJV And when Paul wanted to go in to the people, the disciples would not allow him. Then some of the officials of Asia, who were his friends, sent to him pleading that he would not venture into the theater.

After an uproar in the city where Paul preached, some of Paul’s companions were seized. Whether to explain his message or to not let his friends suffer alone, Paul wanted to go in the hostile crowd.

The great Paul, who was full of the Holy Spirit, had an emotional moment in the flesh that probably would have gotten him killed. Thankfully, he had some level headed friends who spoke wisdom to him.

It’s beneficial to have some close friends or family members we can talk to when our flesh gets louder than the Holy Spirit’s voice. It’s beneficial to have some people who can talk us off the ledge when our emotions are leading us down an unwise path. The bible refers to this as heeding counsel (Prov. 12:15). God could use these people to help us keep a job, not go to jail, not live in regret, or lose our families.

It’s great to have people who are with us and will help us fulfill our purpose, but we don’t need “yes friends.” We need some people surrounding us who can be honest with us and lead us in godly wisdom if our flesh gets the best of us.

Find a few good friends, family members, or associates who can provide wise counsel.
