Psalms 118:8-9 NKJV It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes.

There are people who put their trust in political figures, medical providers, and pastors. At the end of the day, these are men with flaws who don’t have all the answers. Some may not think their trust is in man, but their actions say otherwise.

If we’re seriously getting upset because of what some politician said or did, we’re trusting in man. Our getting upset is a sign that we don’t trust that God can change the situation or it will work out for our good (Rom. 8:28). We may not like what they said or did, but when we know we can take our grievances to God, we won’t let their actions impact our emotions. 

A medical provider may say we have a serious health issue. If our trust is in what they say, we’ll begin to fear and think this health issue will change the quality of our life or take our life from us. However, if we trust in the word of God, we’ll believe that we’re healed and we shall live and not die (Is. 53:5; Ps. 118:17).

A pastor is there to lead us to the Lord and to give us revelation from God’s word. They are not to be fully trusted. With this understanding, we shouldn’t feel deceived if a pastor misses the mark. They’re human with flaws. If we trust in them, we’ll leave the church thinking all pastors are the same. Trusting in God allows us to maintain our peace when a spiritual leader falls short. Trusting in God should encourage us to think if God can use that flawed pastor to lead all these people to the Lord, He can use us too.

Man may have some educational and experience, but they’re not our Father Who is able to help, guide, and direct. If we put our trust in man, we’ll often be disappointed. But if we put our trust in God, He’ll never let us down (Rom. 10:11).
