Mark 14:3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. 4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. 6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.

Isn’t it funny how people want to tell us what to do with our money? They’ve read a couple of books or experienced certain situations that now qualify them as “financial experts.”

Here we have this woman, who chose to spend a year’s worth of wages on Jesus. Immediately, she was criticized for this action, but Jesus compliments her and tells everyone she’s done a beautiful thing.

There will be times where God prompts us to sacrifice our finances and go above and beyond our 10% tithe. It will be an inward prompting of the Holy Spirit to give above and beyond our normal amount of giving. It’s during those times fear, human logic, and criticism will come. Those are all designed to stop us from giving to the Kingdom.

Although it’s not mentioned, it’s certain this woman received a harvest on the seed she sowed. Ephesians 6:8 says, God’s Word tells us whatever good we do, the same shall we receive of the Lord. God’s not in the habit of being in debt to anyone so, we can expect to receive a harvest from the good things we’ve sown to Him.

Praise God we can give to the Kingdom of God and praise God for our harvest!
