Hebrews 12:15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

Bitterness has ruined a lot of people. Bitterness comes when people don’t get what they want. It could be superficial like not getting a promotion, or more serious like not getting the love needed from a parent. Either way, if bitterness is not checked, it can negatively impact our future and the future of others.

A bitter person can talk themselves out of entering a relationship or going for their dreams because of negative experiences. They can do the same to others. They can squash people’s dreams and tell them how something won’t work. Bitter people can be deceived into thinking they’re helping people avoid heartache, but their bitterness is raining on other people’s parade.

We need to identify when bitterness has entered our hearts or the hearts of others. To avoid being bitter forever, we must allow God Almighty to show us what caused our bitterness and follow His instructions to uproot bitterness. It may be a time consuming process to uproot bitterness, but at least we’re doing the work to become better instead of bitter.

Don’t be bitter.
