Jeremiah 1:6-8 NKJV Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

A lot of us have been raised to “stay in a child’s place.” This means being seen and not heard (keeping quiet), staying out of grown folks business, and not speaking unless we’re spoken to. This type of training as a child leaves a lot of us, even as adults, timid to speak the truth to older individuals. 

As adults and as the Holy Spirit leads, we can speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15). It may be to our parents, grandparents, older relatives, or even a supervisor. We should tell them what we believe God is instructing us to say. It may be about their eating habits, their negative attitudes, or other areas where they can improve. Like God told Jeremiah, we shouldn’t be afraid of their reactions.

They may get offended or completely ignore what we’ve said, but we did what God instructed us to do and sowed a seed. That seed was planted in their minds and what we said may yield a harvest in the future.

Even though we’re younger, let’s be bold and fearless, and say what God has said.
