Exodus 35:22 NLT Both men and women came, all whose hearts were willing. They brought to the Lord their offerings of gold—brooches, earrings, rings from their fingers, and necklaces. They presented gold objects of every kind as a special offering to the Lord.

For years, people tried to make giving mandatory. They even attached consequences to not giving. Although it’s highly encouraged to give and there are benefits associated with what we give, giving is not mandatory.

In this chapter, we see God requesting an offering from everyone with willing hearts to give towards the Tabernacle. This means, there were some whose hearts weren’t willing. Does that mean God loves those who didn’t give less or they’re going to hell? Of course not. It shows God wants gifts from people whose hearts are willing. He further confirms this in 2 Corinthians 9:7 (New Testament) where Paul says God doesn’t want a reluctant giver, but a cheerful giver.

If you don’t have a heart to give or you think it’s a scam, keep your money. You’re definitely missing out on opportunities for God to bless you, but keep it. For those with willing hearts, let’s give as God instructs us to give so that we can further advance and expand His Kingdom.
