Exodus 18:21-23 NLT “But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten. They should always be available to solve the people’s common disputes, but have them bring the major cases to you. Let the leaders decide the smaller matters themselves. They will help you carry the load, making the task easier for you. If you follow this advice, and if God commands you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace.”
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, gave Moses advice on a better way to handle disputes with the children of Israel. Instead of just accepting the advice, Jethro advised Moses to confirm with God if his advice was agreeable to God’s commands.
We may get good advice from our parents, friends, coworkers, social media influencers, or AI. Instead of just following through with the advice, we should go to God and confirm if this newly aquired information should be implemented. Just because it sounds like a good idea doesn’t mean it’s a God idea.
Whether it’s an idea about increasing our finances, bettering our health, being more efficient at work, or parenting tips, run it past God to see if it’s His will for our lives.
