Genesis 22:12 NLT Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.

Exodus 32:14 NLT So the Lord changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people.

Above, are two examples where God changed His plans.

God gives us instructions. Let’s say He instructs someone to be a lawyer. They go to law school, finish, and become a practicing attorney. After a few years, He instructs them to quit their jobs and start a business that has nothing to do with the law.

After receiving instructions of starting a business, many of us would question ourselves if we heard God correctly. We would wonder if we heard God correctly about quitting our jobs and starting a business, or wonder if we heard Him correctly about being a lawyer in the first place.

What we’re experiencing is God changing His plans. As we spend time with God, we know His voice (John 10:27). Since we know His voice, we can be certain that we correctly heard God both times. We just need to prepare our minds to pivot. It may not seem logical and we could feel like we’re losing something, but trust Him.

As we pivot and follow-through with His new plan, we honor God by becoming more of a vessel for Him to work through. Our obedience also positions us to receive the wonderful blessings He has for us.

Don’t get so locked into a plan. Trust God, be ready to pivot, and know there are greater benefits on the other side of our pivots.
