Exodus 32:1 NLT “When the people saw how long it was taking Moses to come back down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron. “Come on,” they said, “make us some gods who can lead us. We don’t know what happened to this fellow Moses, who brought us here from the land of Egypt.”
4 Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded it into the shape of a calf. When the people saw it, they exclaimed, “O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

Aaron was the older brother of Moses. He saw first hand what God could do. He was the mouthpiece of Moses when speaking with Pharaoh. His walking stick became a snake too. He saw numerous miracles God performed.

How could Aaron go from experiencing all that God had done to making a golden calf and calling it god? I submit to you it’s because he had an unrenewed mind.

Aaron spent over 80 years under the Egyptians. In those 80 years, he’s seen how they worshipped, how successful they were, and he hadn’t really seen any benefits of serving God until Moses returned. Those 80 years under the Egyptians outweighed that one year or less of God’s miracles. Between an unrenewed mind, the delay of Moses, and the pressure from the people, Aaron helped facilitate idolatry.

If we’re not mindful, we’ll do the same thing. If we haven’t took the time to get in God’s word to renew our minds and if we’re in a pressure situation where we feel like God is taking too long, we could say, “forget it” and revert back to our old way of thinking and do something that dishonors God. It doesn’t matter if we seen Him do great things in our lives. With an unrenewed mind, we could easily go back to something familiar.

Let’s continously renew our minds with the word of God and don’t allow any external pressures push you away from God.
