Hebrews 4:14-16 NKJV Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

God’s mercy is not as apparent when we’re doing everything correctly. His mercy is mostly seen when we’ve missed the mark.

We should make the effort to live a holy life, but there will be times when we miss the mark. Our flesh instinctively wants to avoid and distance ourselves from God. We see this with Adam and Eve when they missed the mark (Gen. 3:8-10). But avoiding God is unwise.

People who avoid God or beat themselves up about their mistakes don’t have a full revelation of God’s mercy. Like Adam and Eve, they become afraid. They become afraid of God’s wrath, judgment, or punishment. We don’t need to be afraid. All of these things were put on Jesus (Romans 5:6-11).

God never expected us to be perfect. God’s mercy was designed to comfort us when we miss it. As soon as we miss the mark, we should recognize, appreciate, and run back to God and His mercy. As the scripture says, it’s there to “help in the time of need.”

Another beautiful thing about God’s mercy is that it never runs out. No matter how many times we mess up, His mercy is available. Praise God for His mercy.
