Nehemiah 4:1-3 NIV When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?” Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!”
When God gives us a vision, an idea, or an assignment, everyone may not be rooting for us. Everyone may not understand what we’re doing. They may laugh at us or think we’ve lost our minds.
Listening to their ridicule won’t help. Continue to listen to and follow the voice of God. As we follow His instructions, it would be great to say that everything will work out smoothly. But that may not be the case for everyone. Some of us may have to face difficult moments and frustrations, but don’t quit. Continue on.
As we continue, not being moved by what we see, things will eventually fall into place. That church will begin to grow, business will pickup, and we’ll experience the fruits of our obedience.
Keep this in mind. God gave the assignment of building the Temple to David, but Solomon was the one who completed it (1 Chronicles 28). The maximum potential of our assignment may not be in our lifetime. It may reach its fullest potential long after we’re gone.
As long as we’re doing what God has instructed, God is pleased, people are blessed, we’ll experience fulfillment. Do what God has called you to do.
